Water systems may experience corrosion, scale formation, or both depending on the water chemistry of its sources. Corrosion problems can result from numerous properties of water. Mitigation requires water analysis and current system conditions in order to develop the appropriate inhibition technique. Deposition, including scale formation is also caused by imbalances in water chemistry.

The proper treatment for this condition also depends on multiple system parameters.
